The court of Florence, after 8 hours in council chamber, sentenced to 10 years and six months Lucia Aleotti, president of the company, and his brother 7 years and six months Albert John, vice-president, at the conclusion of the trial that saw them in trial on various charges of tax fraud, money laundering and corruption. Lucia and Alberto Giovanni are the children of Alberto Aleotti, patron of the pharmaceutical company, who died in 2014. Over a billion euros confiscated from the accused.
The Aleotti brothers were forever banned from public offices and Lucia Aleotti alone from having relations with the public administration for three years.
According to investigators, for 26 years, from 1984 to 2010, Alberto Aleotti used fictitious foreign companies to purchase the active ingredients, with the aim of increasing the final price of the drugs, thanks to a series of false invoices. The court also established that the president will have to compensate the presidency of the Council of Ministers who had filed a civil action with 100 thousand euros.
The prosecutor had asked for nine and a half years for Lucia Aleotti and eight years for Giovanni Aleotti.
Acquired company collaborators
The court of Florence instead acquitted all the other defendants including the mother of the two brothers, Massimiliana Landini. The other defendants acquitted are Giovanni Cresci, Licia Proietti and Sandro Casini. In any case, the two Aleotti brothers were also acquitted on some counts.
